‘Everything Changes’ an ode to Altadena

This is my article I published on Medium about our beloved Altadena. I wrote this after the Eaton Fire and my wife Alma and I lost our home and music studio along with so many friends and members of our diverse community. If you wish you can support our rebuild here on Go Fund Me. Thanks for reading!

Sister Octavia preached her prophetic dystopian doctrine of hope over the foothills of Altadena. ‘All that you touch you change, All that you change changes you. The only lasting truth is change. God is change.’

In the first week of the year Dena folk experienced change first hand, and perhaps in one of the most radical ways possible. Divine fire took from us practically everything; things we made by hand and things we've worked for years to to build up and invest in our community.

Altadena is a place of bears and bobcats, coyotes and deer, racoons and a few sideways characters roaming the streets, trails and mountain streams that nourish the big city. Up here we are artists, scientists, activists, blue collar laborors and craftspeople, educators and innovators, black musicians and Mexican cowboys, Native actors and much more.
